I was born in Kent and have lived all of my life in the county.
I am a finance professional who qualified in 1980 with the Institute of Company Accountants, (now merged with the Association of International Accountants),
Throughout my career of more than 30 years I have worked in commerce predominantly in food/retailing environments supplying the UK supermarket groups and have amassed a wealth of experience and knowledge over several industry sectors (including retail)
My initial training was with double entry book-keeping and manual handwritten ledgers the disciplines of which you never forget.
I am fortunate to have experienced the development of the accounting profession from manual ledgers through to NCR accounting machines and the embryonic development of basic computer systems from tape and punched card operations through to networked terminals and then onto personal computers and the current integrated offerings
For over 18 years I worked in the Fresh Produce industry gaining vast experience in all aspects of this extremely fast moving and volatile food sector supplying all the major UK Supermarket Groups as well the Wholesale Produce Markets around the country.
As Finance Director & Company Secretary of a £40 million turnover business I was actively involved in all aspects of a commercial trading company including Finance, Banking and Treasury, Personnel, Information Technology, Pensions, Insurances, Legal and Property matters, Compliance issues and also the relocation of the business from two leasehold facilities.
During my career I have specified and developed a number of bespoke computer systems with full integration of sales order processing, consignment and the financial ledgers
Latterly I set up and ran my own Internet based Ecommerce business as well as providing Business Mentoring to a number of sole traders and SME’s
I am also a member of the Institute of Consulting (MIC)
and a member of the Institute of Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (MIoEE)
